Science and Mathematics  

Bethel College's Division of Science and Mathematics is housed in Odom Hall located just southeast of Campbell Hall adminstrative building.  If you major in mathematics, biology, chemistry, nursing, or any of Bethel's pre-professional programs such as pre-pharmacy, pre-engineering, pre-profressional health sciences or pre-physician's assistant studies, you will be part of the Division of Science and Mathematics.

Mathematics

Bethel’s Mathematics program will prepare you to enter graduate school or pursue careers in teaching, actuarial science, business, computer science or natural science.

What you'll learn

You’ll learn to reason logically and abstractly and to improve your potential for problem solving. Bethel’s Mathematics program will broaden your ability to understand form and structure of mathematics, and you’ll be counseled by both faculty and experienced career counselors who will guide you toward computer science courses that will make you the most marketable Mathematics graduate.

Biology

Bethel’s Biology major will prepare you for a number of science-related careers by providing a comprehensive curriculum in the biological sciences.

Bethel’s 100-acre campus, which is nestled in a beautiful rural setting, sets it apart as a school with ample opportunities for on-campus field study and research both inside and outside the classroom. Chemistry

Bethel’s Chemistry Major is designed to prepare you for any number of career options in chemistry. Whether you intend to pursue a graduate degree in chemistry or biochemistry, whether you want to continue your studies at a health professional school, or whether you simply have an interest in specialized fields such as pharmaceuticals or forensic chemistry, Bethel provides you with an excellent foundation. You can even take a core group of courses that will prepare you for licensure to teach chemistry in grades 7 through 12.

What You'll Learn


The courses within Bethel’s chemistry major are not only broad and vast but deep meaning you’ll learn about all types of chemistry and you’ll learn in-depth about many of them. Bethel offers courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, pharmacology, biochemistry and inorganic chemistry, and you can even conduct an individual study on any chemistry topic you choose.

Nursing

The Bethel College Bachelor of Science degree program prepares graduates for entry-level professional nurse positions in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings and for advancement to a graduate degree program in nursing. Bethel's nursing program is unique because it provides coursework within a Christian environment.

About the Program

There are many students like you who are pursuing a nursing degree, however at Bethel College, our intent is not only to prepare you with the education and skills needed to land a nursing job, but to develop registered nurses who positively impact health care and take an active leadership role in the community and the world.

Pre - Pharmacy

Bethel’s Pre-Pharmacy major is a 3 + 1 program where you would transfer to the University of Tennessee – Memphis (upon acceptance) after your third year at Bethel, and upon receipt of your pharmacy degree at UT-Memphis, you would also receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Bethel.

One of the biggest advantages of completing your first three years at Bethel is that our small student/teacher ratios and the nurturing environment we provide will ensure you successfully transition from high school to a difficult curriculum like pharmacy. Once you undertake coursework at UT Memphis, we will have helped you learn how to be a good, conscientious student – one who can complete the coursework for and earn a pharmacy degree.

Pre - Engineering

Bethel’s Pre-Engineering major is a 3-2 program partnership with Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee. In other words, you will transfer to Tennessee Tech after your third year at Bethel, and you’ll complete two more years at Tennessee Tech and receive an engineering degree from Tennessee Tech as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from Bethel!

Pre - Physician's Assistant Studies

The Pre-Physician Assistant Studies major is designed to prepare you to enter a master of science in physician assistant studies program, and as one of only two schools in the state to actually offer the master’s degree in physician assistant studies, we feel confident that our undergraduate program has many advantages that those at other schools simply don’t have. For example, as a pre-PA graduate at Bethel, you will automatically be granted an interview for our master’s program, and although there is no guaranteed acceptance into the PA program, you will also have the advantage of being awarded 7 bonus points toward your interview score.

You’ll take classes in biology, chemistry, health, physics and psychology in addition to the general mix of courses which we feel make every student best prepared to enter the working world.
