Software Resources

There are several pieces of software that have been developed to provide help to families and professionals who work with individuals on the spectrum. Here are some links to promising software that might be of help to you. Some are more expensive than others, but all on this list are relatively affordable. All listed use some form of evidence-based methods (methods that have been shown with research to be effective for many people with autism). Software is absolutely no replacement for professional therapy/intervention, but they can help fill in the gap when resources run low and/or supplement already occurring intervention.

Discrete Trial Trainer (DTT), Activity Trainer and Storymovies

The DTT software teaches some of the same content that is taught in typical discrete trial/ABA type programs. The Activity Trainer uses the technique of video modeling to teach skills. The Storymovies software is based on Carol Gray's work on the widely used technique of social stories. The DTT and Activity Trainer have a one time fee (with free technological support and updates for one year afterward). The Storymovies DVD is a one-time purchase.
We have a few free trial CDs of the DTT/Activity Trainer software available for checkout at the Autism Institute.

     TeachTown

This online interactive software also teaches some of the content that is taught in typical discrete trial/ABA type programs. This tool was created by a psychologist who is also a BCBA.
There is a monthly user fee and a 30 day free trial offered as well.
