The lenders listed on the Bethel College Recommended Lender List have been selected based on customer service and borrower benefits. Neither Bethel College nor the Financial Aid Office derives any benefit from these lenders. Students may choose any lender that participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you choose a lender that is not listed on our Recommended Lender list so that we can work with that lender to insure the loan is processed properly.
IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING ALTERNATIVE OR PRIVATE LOANS: Any education loan received based on enrollment at Bethel College MUST be counted as a financial aid resource. This federal rule applies to loans disbursed to Bethel College and loans disbursed directly to the student. Therefore receiving these private loans could impact other aid you receive. Call the Financial Aid office if you have any questions.

Alternative Loans:
Alternative or private loans are non-federal education loans available through private lenders. These loans are credit-based and may require a co-signer depending on the student's age and credit history. Because alternative loans may have higher fees and variable interest rates, we encourage students to only take a private loan if absolutely necessary and only after all other avenues of financial aid (i.e. Federal Stafford Loans, Parent Plus Loans, outside scholarship opportunities, etc.) have been exhausted. Alternative loans cannot be consolidated with Federal loans. These loans can only be approved for the annual Cost of Attendance at Bethel College minus all the student's other financial aid. A student must be approved for the Alternative loan and complete all the necessary paperwork the lender requires before Bethel College will certify the loan. The student must also complete the Alternative Loan Request Form.
