The Division of Natural Science and Mathematics of Bethel College is seeking candidates for the following full-time, nine month, non-tenure track position in chemistry. Applicant review will begin immediately, and the position will start in August 2008.
The candidate must have a M.S. in the chemical sciences. Instructional responsibilities will include teaching introductory and general chemistry classes and/or laboratories. Opportunities exist for the candidate to develop new laboratory curricula, explore possibilities for virtual experiments, and teach advanced chemistry laboratories, including undergraduate research.
As laboratory specialist, the candidate will be responsible for laboratory and sample preparation throughout the chemistry program, coordinating maintenance of laboratory equipment, and supervising student workers performing these and other tasks. Effective management of clean-up and waste chemicals, tracking chemical inventory, and requisitioning and ordering routine materials will be performed by the teaching lab specialist.
The chemistry department provides instruction to students majoring in chemistry, biology, pre-professional health studies, pre-pharmacy, environmental science, nursing, and secondary education in science. Basic chemistry instruction is also provided for non-science majors.
Commitment to excellence in laboratory management, teaching, and student mentoring is expected. College teaching experience or experience with college laboratory curriculum development and management is desirable.
