- American Civil War Home Page Outstanding collection of web links to regimental histories, battle plans, documents from both North and South, biographical materials, soldiers' journals, image files, and more.
- American Historical Association
- American History Document Collection Collection of documents arranged in chronological order is part of a hypertext American history that is also excellent.
- American Memory From the American Digital Library Project of the Library of Congress. Digitized photographs, sound recordings, political speeches from WW I, Mathew Brady Civil War photos, oral history from the Federal Writers Project.
- Britannica Guide to Black History From Encyclopedia Britannica. Articles on topics (Brown v. Board of Education, Negro League, Freedmen's Bureau, African-Methodist Episcopalian Church) or on important individuals in politics, history, the arts, education, religion, etc.
- Clio's Digital Forge Resources and images for teaching early American history.
- Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Notable for its "Electronic Field Trips," and highly recommended by our history faculty.
- Historical United States Census Data Browser Census data between 1790 and 1960. You can choose and simultaneously browse up to 15 variables.
- History of the United States Collection of primary source materials.
- Hoover Presidential Library Important files covering Hoover's achievements, and thus early 20th century American history
- Making of America Collection of primary documents on subjects as wide-ranging as agriculture, etiquette, yellow fever. Contains approximately 1,600 books and 50,000 journal articles (direct link) with 19th century imprints.
- National Archive Includes exhibits, National Audiovisual Information Locator (which searches NARA's huge collection of stills, motion pictures, videos, audio recordings), and the government information locator, and individual files like the JFK assassination records.

- Encyclopedia of the Orient Covers the history and culture of countries which we would call the middle east.
- HyperHistory Online Includes timelines, "lifelines" (as in who lived when), and historical maps. The World History chart is a nice chronology, from David and Solomon through Roosevelt and Churchill.
Internet Modern History Sourcebook From Prof. Paul Halsall at Fordham University. Contains hundreds of primary documents, and organized them in a thoughtful, usable arrangement. He has also included materials on historiography. historical method, and the theory of history. From this site you can link to his other sourcebooks on ancient and medieval history.
